Dr Fred Melchior has a breadth of experience across the public and private sectors leading research, manufacturing, and commercial organizations in the life sciences arena. A research virologist by training, Dr Melchior began his career as a researcher with the rank of Captain at the US Army’s Biological Research Laboratories in Frederick, MD. Though Dr Melchior returned to academics and ultimately private industry after his assignment in Maryland, he maintained his affiliation with the military for 20 years, retiring from service in the US Army Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2002.
Over the course of Dr Melchior’s 40+ year career leading research, manufacturing, and fully integrated commercial organizations, he has experienced the challenges faced by many companies of addressing operational alignment issues. Additionally, he had participated in more than a dozen organizational integrations, both as the acquirer and as the acquired. This depth of experience led to his selection as the Integration Lead for the Intervet Integration Transition Planning Team for the company’s merger with Schering-Plough. In this position, he successfully led the company’s internal training and developmental efforts and played a leading role in shaping the integration strategy.
Having retired from Intervet Inc. in 2006, Dr Melchior has an active consulting practice focused on providing executive consultation and training support in the pharmaceutical R&D field.
